The castle

The castle is the first thing someone sees when entering the city. It was built by the Venetians in the late 13th century on the ruins of a Byzantine fortress. The most important monuments is the Byzantine church of Agia Sophia and a large octagonal tower in the inner courtyard. Inside the castle are preserved carved tombs, Venetian cisterns and Turkish bath.

The Monastery of St. John

Inside the castle we meet the women monastery of St. John, built in 1918. There are many caves in the monastery that worth to visit.

Panagia Eleistria

Τhe glorious church of Panagia Eleistria is located at the southwest end of Koroni’s Venetian castle. From there one may enjoy a unique view of the Messinian bay and Koroni’s beach.

The Koroni beach

In front of “Antonis Rooms” there is a long sandy beach called “Zaga” or “Memi” and stretches for about three kilometers. “Memi” is the most popular and beautiful beach in Koroni.

Excursion to Finikounda

Finikounda is located between Methoni and Koroni. There is a fine sandy beach , restaurants and souvenir shops . Daily, from the harbor, there are boat trips to deserted islands opposite called «Schiza» and «Sapienza».
